(HKUD Hercegovac)

Croatian Cultural and Artistic Society Hercegovac from Široki Brijeg, or HKUD Hercegovac for short, is a society of the West-Herzegovina County. It was founded in 1996 with its headquarters in Široki Brijeg. It has around two hundred members organized in several sections. In April 2021, the president of HKUD Hercegovac was Jerko Sesar and the artistic director was Ivan Barać.

At performances, ENKB from their region is promoted. Traditional dances such as ** kolanje, ** biranje, ** proleta, ** poskakuša, ** trusa, ** dalmatinka, ** taraban and ** trojanac are regularly featured in the stage performances.
Performances are accompanied by playing traditional musical instruments such as ** diple, ** dvojnica and ** „muzika“ (mouth harmonica). Traditional songs are sung such as ** ganga, ** bećarac, ** brojka, ** putnička pjesma, ** kolarska pjesma, ** čobanke pjesme and ** uspavanke.
HKUD Hercegovac has set up several traditional customs on stage, among which stands out "Crossing of Tobacco in Herzegovina", "Shearing of Wool" and "Wedding Custom - Arrival of the Bride". HKUD Hercegovac also has a section for choreographed folklore, which has presented itself on stage with several different choreographies. It is a member of UHAKUD in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

HKUD Hercegovac has been organizing the Annual HKUD Hercegovac Concert for many years, which takes place in the second half of December in Široki Brijeg, where together with guests it presents traditional culture that its members and guests cherish. It also started the Workshop of National Costumes and Handicrafts. HKUD Hercegovac has presented itself at almost all significant folk festivals in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, as well as in many cities throughout Europe, Canada and the United States. Široki Brijeg, the seat of HKUD Hercegovac, is abundant in cultural and natural attractions, of which the museum and gallery in the Franciscan Monastery in Široki Brijeg, the picturesque Borak Spring and River Lištica, the remains of numerous Illyrian buildings and a large number of "stećak" stand out.
